Rusutsu Village offers safe and exceptionally tasty farm products

● Potato
Rusutsu is known as the birthplace of the “Benimaru” potato, which is used to make starch and was certified as an elite variety in 1938. In recent years, “Kitaakari” developed by crossbreeding “Danshaku” and “Tunika” is also becoming equally popular as Danshaku.
● Asparagus
The cool highland climate nurtures crispy and sweet green asparagus. For nationwide shipments, freshness is ensured by harvesting in the early morning.


● Chinese yam
The Chinese yam is a highland vegetable shipped to all parts of Japan. It is well known for its fine texture, stickiness and sweetness, which are enhanced by the difference in temperature between day and night.
● Sweet corn
“Mirai” is a representative variety of sweet corn grown in Rusutsu. It is characterized by its sweetness and soft skin and is good both boiled and grilled.

  Local specialties of Rusutsu

● Miso bun
This famous confection of Rusutsu is so popular that people come from all over to buy it. It is a bite-size steamed bun filled with pureed sweet red-bean paste. The simple but rich flavor that has been handed down for nearly a century will fill your mouth with joy.
● Bread/cake
The exquisite bread and cake baked carefully using the delicious water of Rusutsu have a rich sweet flavor.





● Soba and udon noodles
Tasty noodles made of buckwheat and wheat flour with delicious water are the gifts of the fertile land of Rusutsu.

● Hand-made tofu
This old-fashioned, hand-made tofu that weighs approximately 800 g is popular even among real gourmets. There are many fans of this delicious food both within and outside of the village.
● Rusutsu Fukakusa pottery
Pottery created in the Rusutsu Fukakusa kiln gives warmth and inspiration to those who touch it. Works produced here are exhibited and sold on the second floor of the studio.
