【Greetings】

In July 2008, the G8 Summit will be held at the Windsor Hotel Toya in Toyako Town as its main venue.  The International Media Center (IMC) will be established at the Rusutsu Resort in our village (IMC is a comprehensive facility complete with the press conference room for the national leaders and working spaces for the press).

During the Summit, the leaders of major countries will gather here in the midst of the rich natural environment of Hokkaido and discuss international issues with a focus on the environment.  We consider it an important event that will go down in the history books of the prefecture.

The establishment of the International Media Center at the Rusutsu Resort in our village is also a great honor for us.

While the Summit itself will be held in Toyako Town in the Iburi Subprefecture, a variety of people including the press will visit our village.

We intend to offer information on security and various other matters related to the Summit in cooperation with relevant organizations to avoid unnecessary anxiety among the local residents.  We hope to work together with everyone toward the successful opening of the Summit.

・Would you like some “Summit” business cards? (Feb. 4)
　We are considering a variety of projects in relation to the Hokkaido Toyako Summit and the establishment of the International Media Center in our village. As the first of such projects, we produced business cards specially designed for the Summit. These blank business cards feature the flags of the eight summit countries and the EU, the map of Rusutsu and a view of the village. We prepared two designs for vertical and horizontal writings. We are distributing these cards free of charge. If you are interested in using them, please come to the Planning Division of the village office. Cards will be handed out in hundreds. We want many people to use these cards to help us inform others within and outside of the village about the establishment of the press center so we can give a boost to the energy of the Summit together!

・A rally for the establishment of the “Hokkaido Toyako Summit Association for Safety Cooperation in the Area at the Foot of Mt. Yotei” was held. (Jan. 21)
Explanations on the preparation and security system of the Summit were given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Police Agency and Japan Coast Guard.
From our village, 22 people including the members of the Villagers’ Council for the Promotion of the Hokkaido Toyako Summit participated in the rally.
　　

・A round-table conference of the municipalities related to the Hokkaido Toyako Summit was held. (Dec. 18)
　A round-table conference of the municipalities related to the Hokkaido Toyako Summit was held at the Rusutsu Resort Hotel. Approximately 150 participants from neighboring towns and villages received explanations on the preparation, security, coast guard and other details of the Toyako Summit from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Police Agency and Japan Coast Guard.
　　

・“Rusutsu – Colors of Four Seasons” photo contest is now being held. (Dec. 3)
　We are collecting photos of seasonal views and scenes of everyday lives in Rusutsu for an exhibition to show the attractions of the village to many people.

・) Contractor for the International Media Center was decided! (Nov. 29)
　Contractor: a four-company joint venture formed by Takenaka Corporation, Iwata Chizaki Inc., Itogumi Construction Co., Ltd. and Nihon Sekkei Inc.


・The inaugural meeting of the Villagers’ Council for the Promotion of the Hokkaido Toyako Summit was held. (Oct. 15)
